Green Day

While working my volunteer shifts at our local thrift shop I unearthed a couple of green cuties. Top, a lovely cotton coverlet and bottom, a tshirt, that, imo—was truly lol.  On first glance I noted the weight and hand of the fabric (70s? 80s?), the nicely worn silk screen printing and old-school style of the logo Optimist Club of Victoria. Then I turned it over inspecting for stains and saw the other side. :)

Random Spring Things

Thrifted and Stitched: (above)

●Rolled edge wool jersey coverlet
●Mitred corner napkins from a cut-down linen tablecloth

Cerulean, Woad or Indigo? This shade of blue kept following me home from the thrift store this week.

ABC

 easy as 123
 simple as do re mi

… yeah, right.

Counted cross stitch has always been my crafty achilles heel, and I suspect will only be remedied by buying one of those bizarre looking magnifying head-gear thingies.

Excerpts from a lovely french embroidery book… a $2 bargain.
Aren't those medallions pretty?

Dollfus-Mieg & Cie, or DMC. Anyone who has ever done any hand stitching will recognize that abbreviation. Curiously, the book isn't dated, but simply says 11th edition.

Love the title page.
And, more alphabet goodness, here.

Dreaming of Genie

Ironically, days after buying a brand new Pfaff sewing machine, I found a little Singer Genie languishing on the ground in the sad sack section of one of our local thrift stores. $5 (No returns No exchanges).  I could have walked by with barely a glance except for the fact that this machine has a twin; a few thousand miles away, residing with my sister. A 1970's sewing machine inherited from a very talented lady, my Aunt Rita. She was an impeccable sewer; lined sheath dresses with matching collared jackets, and a perfectionist  in all her pursuits.  The Singer Genie 353, and the subsequent 354 were popular machines due to their lightweight portability. A quick look at Ebay shows prices ranging $50 and up up up; forums debate whether or not it falls into the collectible category. For me, though, $5 well spent.

You'd be dusty too.  My 70's Genie rescued from the scrap heap section of the thrift store.

Thrifted

This week's big ole thrift score; not one, but TWO (sorry for yelling) vintage feedsack coverlets. Little ditzy print appliques on a plain white muslin ground; and some of the patches so worn that they have turned into little chenille outlines of their former selves. ♥

Thrifting Serendipity

There are many blogs out there with interesting citations of 'why i thrift'. In fact I find the vicarious thrill of someone else's score is all that much sweeter knowing I don't have to make room for it. Hats off to all who wisely adhere to the one-in, one-out policy.

But I do love the serendipity of finding a rosendahl mini monkey knock-off for a friend; or toting home a bedraggled cross stitch on one outing; then later finding the pattern book featuring that exact pattern on the cover. Done, and done.
